Ms. Franks, founder and research analyst, identifies and develops event-driven investment opportunities across the capital structure (i.e., bank debt, bonds, equity) of companies in a variety of industries which face catalysts supporting long or short investment recommendations.Based on primary and secondary research, she develops investment catalysts and risks, financial forecasts and valuation scenarios (comparable company, precedent transactions and discounted cash flow analysis).In addition, she develops going concern, liquidation and post reorganization valuations and credit / liquidity analysis.
Ms. Franks’ substantial experience stems from her five-year tenure as a partner at Opportunity Research Group (dissolved in 2009 / partners pursuing other interests), an independent research boutique, and The Occasio Fund, where she was a portfolio manager and member of the investment committee and acted as a sub-advisor to the Hatteras Alternative Mutual Funds.
Prior to joining Opportunity Research Group, she was an investment banker at Salomon Smith Barney, where during her five-year tenure, she cultivated relationships with CEOs and CFOs of industrial companies and executed M&A advisory and capital raising transactions totaling $25 billion.These transactions included divestitures, acquisitions, spin-offs and restructurings as well as cash flow and asset based lending, high yield bond offerings, and secondary and initial public equity offerings.
Prior to joining Salomon Smith Barney and attending The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Ms. Franks was an investment banker at Kidder, Peabody & Co. Incorporated where she was involved in the execution of 11 equity and debt offerings totaling $1.3 billion on behalf of energy companies.
Ms. Franks earned an M.B.A. at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1996 and B.B.A. in Finance, Magna Cum Laude, at Texas A&M University in 1991.
